Photo Story Friday: How Bad Does It Have To Be Before Someone Calls Child Services?

This past week put this question to the test!
On a blazing hot summer afternoon my youngest daughter was out enjoying the sunshine in the backyard. She was happily singing to herself while jumping up and down on the trampoline. Up and down, up and down, up and down. She continued to jump herself the entire length of the rectangular tramp. Nearing the end she jumped up but the angle that she landed on suddenly propelled her forward out of control. With arms flailing and eyes wide she gained enough control to push her hands out in front of her to try and stop her fall. Her two small hands slipped right past the springs. Thwack! The horrible sound resounded through the air as her face broke her fall, on the bar. Then like a banshee straight from Hades the wailing began. Shock set in and a possible concussion. We sat for an hour trying to console her until she finally fell into a fitful sleep. :(

The result wasn't pretty. I think she had double vision for a few days because she kept running into walls, tables, and furniture.

Now I swore that I would never put a full facial shot of any of my children on a public blog that can be accessed by anyone. But look at the poor child, I can hardly tell who she is! And I'm her mother.

I really thought someone was going to turn me in for child abuse, you should have seen how complete strangers were staring at her whenever I braved taking her into public. Depending on how well she was groomed and dressed the comments ranged from "Oh you poor little girl, what did you do?" (well groomed and dressed) to whispered comments behind my back of "What happened to that little girl?" (in her pj's with her hair a mess). Now I admit that I am certainly not mother of the year. But I swear I didn't beat my child. Most people that beat their children don't typically rush them to the doctor to have their injuries checked out, right?

If you have any stories of disfiguring your own children, grandchildren, niece or nephew please share!

and it didn't help that she had a huge old mosquito bite over the other eye. That is an awful picture. I'm glad she's doing better.

OH MY GOSH! That poor thing. She very well could have had a concussion. I hope you did take her to the hospital. The poor thing! Anyhow, last summer my kid fell into a car door and cut a gash in his head. Thank the Lord it was not real bad but it was scary. The scar is completely gone now.

oh bless her little heart!! That just makes me more scared of trampolines than I already am! My oldest got a black eye last week when he ran smack into the knob of a door I left open!

Oh my gosh. Ooohh that one really hurt! When my nieces were young I used to take them for their Dr. appointments. They were military at that time, military Drs. will bust you in the blink of an eye for child abuse (a good thing) but I remember being worried if either of them had a bruise on them. I might end up in the brig!

I believe you -- most parents that beat their children don't post their handiwork on their blog! :)

That smile is so brave!
