Hello, I just wanted to drop you a quick note because you are K's teacher this year in second grade.
I am writing with the hope that if I explain before hand you won't turn me into Social Services.
K has decided that she is now old enough to do her own hair, choose her own outfit, and add a little makeup without any input from me.
I hope you will see that this a huge part of gaining her independence, and that it is necessary to let her have control. (This has been my mantra through the entire morning while I continually shake my head in dismay.) But as I said before, no input from mom, not even when I see she's making spikes with one of her piggy tails and ratting the other into a tight ball, and picking out an outfit that I wore in 1987.
Thank you for looking past the rats nest in her hair, and the dress that looks like Punky Brewster, and for the makeup that resembles the Joker.
Sincerely,
Heidi

That's just too cute!
I love it! I deal with this on a daily basis! My fingers are always itching to redo something the kids have done!
The meanest, more like the best! I don't think I could ever let go enough to let my kids do that.
She is cute even with the crazy hair-do :)
Actually....I don't think the make-up looks bad. The hair...um...well, it could use some work. Regardless, she is a total doll!
That. Is. Awesome! She's fabulous and so are you for letting her stretch a little and find herself. She's completely and totally adorable!
oh what a good mama you are. And k looks fabulous.
i love a woman who knows what she wants...and if it's bad hair...that's cool too! she's precious!
LOL! Hilarious. My son is the same way...that's why I'm sooooo thankful for uniforms!
Very cute. Sometimes it's soooo hard to let kids be themselves!
Haha! So beautiful! I don't think I could do that...I'm barely letting my 6th grader do her own hair! :)
She's gorgeous though :)
What a wonderful skill for a mom to have: the ability to grit your teeth and let them do things on their own! If she is anything like my girls she honestly believes that she looks stunning! :)
I think my daughter looks at me most days like you looked at K. She keeps telling me I need more fashion. And I keep insisting that the colors can't clash.
ah girls and their single minds - i have 4 of them. cute story - love it and thanks for stopping by!
Punky brewster! Now that is a flash from the past. ;) Independence is a wonderful and complicated thing all at the same time. Very cute.
lol!!! Let her go and be herself. She's still as beautiful as ever.
You win Mom of the year! I think that's the toughest challenge, letting them try a little flying of their own :-)
LOVE this photo story!!
(Oh, and with a smile like that? She'll be fine with whatever she wears!)
Good on you!
My eldest did the same, from when she was about 3,and because I'm no good in the morning, I let her at it. I'm so glad I did, she still has a very individual look that I totally admire, definitely not "one of the crowd" clones!
lol! That will SO be my daughter soon. At 2, she is already extremely opinionated about her clothing, hair and such. She's also very picky about how things feel....I fear her teenage years! LOL
Your daughter is just adorable and clearly has a mind of her own!
They do like their independence, I know that~ Mine is 20.
Great picture and I love the post. Every women has her own opinion about her hair!! It starts earlier in some women than others! Too cute.
Thanks for stopping by and commenting on my Baby Grand and his unbridled joy! He was sitting on a footstool and peeping through the blinds. They made a noise as they dropped back in place when he withdrew his fingers and it seemed to tickle him so! That is when I caught that picture!
Oh, the joy! Blessings.
She's so cute! I'm sure the teacher understands all too well....
This made me laugh!! As a 3rd grade teacher I sometimes wonder if the parents saw the children before they leave the house! I commend you on giving your daughter a little independence, and really she does not look that bad... I've seen much worse!
She looks real cute!
She has that confident look on her face.
Gotta love the independence of young girlhood.
